This work was essential to the hatchery’s goal of conserving between 632 million and 946 million gallons of groundwater annually, significantly reducing the stress on the local aquifer. The improvements also allow for the resting of multiple production wells, extending their operational life and making the hatchery more resilient to the impacts of climate change, particularly drought.
One of the unique aspects of this project was the specialized nature of the facility. Unlike more conventional construction projects, there are limited resources and precedents for the type of work required at a fish hatchery.
